The Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University was held first. Managers from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges attended the meeting. On behalf of the leaders of both sides, Qin Hong and Wang Xiaoping listened to the work report of Confucius Institute from Chinese and foreign Deans, and put forward their suggestions and expectations of future work. Qin Hong affirmed the remarkable contribution that Confucius Institute at Newcastle University had made since 2011, when it was jointly established by both sides, especially on the promotion of Chinese language and traditional culture. Qin hoped that both sides could make full use of the platform to explore more practical cooperation on the communication of teachers, students exchange and cooperation of researches, and make every endeavor to achieve more when the 10th anniversary of Confucius Institute arrives.
Representing the University of Newcastle, Australia, Wang Xiaoping expressed their thanks to CCNU for standing support given to the Confucius Institute. Also, Wang introduced the whole operating situation and outlook for future work of the Institute. She said that Confucius Institute at Newcastle University had been committed to generalize Chinese language and traditional culture in Australia since it was founded. The honor, “Advanced Confucius Institute”, awarded last year, fully affirmed the devotion and contribution of both sides.
Later, teachers from School of Education, School of Psychology and School of Foreign Languages held a discussion with the delegation on several issues, such as the dual degree cooperation program of master of education, the joint cultivation of students on language therapy and collaborative scientific researches. Wang gave a detailed introduction on the origin and development of language therapy project in the Newcastle University, wishing for the cooperation with CCNU on the project to make contributions to the cultivation of professional talents in this field.
