Oct. 19th, Doctor Li Ruohong, associate director of Harvard-Yenching Institute, visited CCNU. Zhao Lingyun, the president of CCNU and the chairman of the university council, and Qin Hong, the chairman of the university council, met with her in the conference room on the third floor of the administrative building.
Zhao Lingyun first welcomed Li Ruohong. He recalled the history of more than 80 years between Harvard-Yenching Institute and our university, thinking highly of the cooperation and communication between the two sides. According to him, Yenching Institute contributed a lot to the early development of CCNU. He said that he has confidence and expectation in facilitating bilateral cooperation. He also pointed out that the cooperation is of great significance since the central government thinks highly of cultural exchanges and our university had just joined Hubei China- South Asia University Alliance. He said that CCNU would continue recommending outstanding scholars to apply for Harvard-Yenching Institute project. He also hoped that we could make further cooperation by bringing in high-level foreign experts, expanding bilateral academic communication and cooperation, and enhancing exchanges of scholars.
Doctor Li appreciated our warm reception. She said Harvard-Yenching Institute cherished our long term cooperation. She was grateful for what had achieved in trainer program and China-India research area. She introduced their newly opened south Asian research projects to us and hoped that our university could recommend more outstanding teachers and students to join this project.
Crews from the organizations of International College and India Research Center, had held in-depth discussions with Doctor Li about recommending outstanding scholars applying project, expanding south Asian research area short-term project, and short-term visit of the high-level alumni to CCNU.The institute is located in the campus of Harvard University and is found ninety years ago under the generosity of the estate of Charles M. Hall, the Harvard-Yenching Institute is an independent foundation dedicated to advancing higher education in Asia in the humanities and social sciences, with special attention to the study of Chinese culture.
